Our Fragil Presence in Time and Space CV/Bio/Pics

G.Amani

Rotten Stones
I will be seated dressed in white with a pile of feminist literature around me. I read out loud various paragraphs from the numerous books that address patriarchy and its effects on society. Within the space of the performance there will be a bucket of rotten tomatoes, that the audience is invited to throw at me if they choose to.

This performance deals with the taboo of talking about patriarchy in relation to women's rights in contemporary society. I want to look at spaces that are deemed safe for women and the shift that occurs once one steps outside the doors of these fragil spaces. I am using space as a way of asserting my power as an individual, to talk about issues that are important to me, but also moving from the inside of a safe space for women and thier dialogue, into the outside world where such conversations are generally ignored and/or contested. Michel Foucault suggests that conflict leads to discourse and I'm hoping that this performance will provide a forum for more dialog about a topic that seems to be written off as having been dealt with and overcome.

The budget includes
- Bucket of rotting tomatoes - $50.00
- Used white clothes - $15.00
- Permit (if done in street) -Four Month Permit = $34.81 + $1.74 GST = $36.55

tweezing the face durational
the reason I did this is because when it came to thinking of actions/gestures that are loaded with meanings i thought of my teenage pastime of plucking hairs out of my face. insecure about my facial and body hair, i used to put myself through all kinds of torture. In Farsi we have a saying that says, "Kill me but make me beautiful", I used to recite this to myself as I'd have my hair pulled out from head to toe. This action became more and more absurd to me as I grew older and realised that I didnt HAVE to do this to myself in order to be considered beautiful.
